Cinsault at Phillips Vineyard

On August 28 we harvested 8 tons of Cinsault from the Phillips Vineyard near the town of Brownfield, Terry County in the Texas High Plains. Terry County has the most area under-vine than any other county in the state with the elevation ranging between 3100-3600 ft.

Tony & Madonna Phillips planted first in 2015 & are incrementally adding more. They have become a very important partner for helping us make our Dandy Rosé.

Syrah at Hossfly Vineyard

Our second pick of the year was on Aug. 15 with a hand pick of Syrah at Hossfly Vineyard near the town of Seagraves in Hockley County, Texas High Plains AVA. We picked early for rosé - this will be a blending component for our Dandy Rosé!

These vines are own-rooted, meaning they weren’t grafted onto American rootstock, which grafting is seen in much of the wine producing world. The Rowden family that owns the land are fourth generation farmers in the area, and branched out to plant a vineyard several years ago. We will also be picking more syrah here later to make a red.

Chenin Blanc kicks off the harvest season!

Our first pick of the year was at Martins Vineyard on Aug. 12 & 13, when we hand-picked Chenin Blanc for a sparkling wine. Fruit for sparkling wines generally lead the season anywhere around the world to preserve freshness with lower sugar content & higher natural acids. This vineyard was planted in 1975 (one of the oldest plantings in the state) in Hockley County, Texas High Plains at 3400 ft. elevation on Fine Amarillo Sandy Loam, which is common in the area.

We did a whole cluster press, and are so excited to see this wine through the process!

Harvest is coming!

Harvest is coming!

Our production started in 2014 with one single barrel (25 cases) of Dandy Rosé, and received generous support from Austin's vibrant food & wine community. 2019 will be our sixth harvest, and this year we will produce nine wines under the Dandy label, The Grower Project & a new one announcing soon!

Please check back for updates and sneak peeks on our production methods and details on the vineyard sites.
